Aircraft texturing, shading, render at Mikros Image
It's really fast, so hard to appreciate, but i made some model, zbrush detailling and renderings on that "different" Nana
commercial.
But i worked on these commercials....
What's happenning, i didn't know the all new mr proxy system in maya 2010, i was still referring to renderman ribboxes.
'getting old maybe.
But the fact is i never saw such a perfect use of MentalRay.
Same setup time, same type, 3 area lights, Final Gather on, default lights off, just cheated by increasing
shadows samples to 10 each...FG 100/0.5/interpol32/quality filter 1
Beautiful isn't it ? No need to know rendertime huh ?
With a physical sky, shadow softness 200 samples 256, big sundisk, low intensity (speculars)
Rendertime 6min50.
Good surprise, aspect ration was 1.066, so that it doesn't match Vray render. Had to recalculate it.
Why is MentalRay respecting aspect ratio ? No other render does it by default :D Maxwell, Vray, Arnold.
That physical sky can give nice results if we change a minimum it's settings. But i don't feel the same about
final image's magic...missing something relevant to global. but i won't go that way in MentalRay, it's known to
be a pain in the ass to reach quality and rendertime balance.
Vray : 10 maya crashes, 4 scene imports, 1 shader remake after deleting it in multilister (hypershade and attributes crashed).
11 Minutes rendertime
5Min in Maxwell are quite insufficient. :)
And the flash lit version with Maxwell, 1 hour render
About 1min50 render for this flash style render with Arnold render on an old 4core...that scene is not the same
(i didn't have the original, had to make the whole thing again), defocus included in rendertime.
And the studio-like one... a bit longer, 4-5 minutes, samples are not pushed to the max. (same as previous image).
Image based lighting, i plugged the map pushed up samples and hit render, the nail has a chrome problem :D
Renders are even prettier than in first versions of Maxwell,
but i can't accept rendertime, even for that amazing result.
Lighting setup was easy to bring to life, like 5 minutes putting 3 planes around. And hit render
I only spent time on increasing watt power to make it brighter, the image was already crazy from the beginning.
Aperture and obstacle with scattering bring something real warm to the final look of the pic.
